Memory Book

Farleigh Hospice

At Farleigh hospice we held a poetry/ writing competition open to all staff. The poem or story had to be written through the eyes of a patient or carer.

The judge was a service user, a day care patient. All the entries were put up on display for everyone to read.

The winner of the competition was a staff nurse on the Inpatient Unit, Sue Smith, with a poem entitiled " A Dignified Experience ". This poem will be published in the Farleigh hospice news paper. The judge described Sue's poem as beautiful showing insight and empathy.

Everyone involved, both writing , and reading the poems and stories thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we very much highlighted dignity in care over the two and a half week period in which the competition was running and poems displayed.

We are thinking of compiling the poems and stories in to a book so that we can continue to share the work and highlight Dignity
