Dignity in Care Day at BEECHMERE
ADVANTAGE BEECHMERE Independent Living Centre, SOS Homecare and CREATIVE CREWE, joined forces together recently for “National Dignity in Care” Day.
Local PSO Suzie Hallsworth read poems about dignity and then residents took part in games, raffles and tombola raising an impressive £303 for MID CHESHIRE HOSPITALS Charity “Everybody knows somebody” Dementia appeal.
Highlight of the day was the unveiling of the “DIGNITY TREE”. Resident Oenone Eldridge has been working for months creating the tree and it was seen for the first time when Councillor Dennis Straine-Francis (Deputy Mayor) did the honours.
Residents, staff and visitors are all invited to write their thoughts about dignity on a leaf to attach to the tree to remind us just how important dignity in care really is. Some of the leaves that were posted...
Dignity….
is when you respect other people as you would like others to treat you. Just show kindness and help when needed. Love is what everyone needs
to me, it means be nice to everybody.
means to be able to live in comfort and do my own thing.
Is being loved and cared for – remembering you are a person.
to me it means good manners. Caring, love, privacy and kindness.
is to get to know a person in the past, present and future.
to me, it means holding my head up in the community.
is having friends to help you through the bad times.
to me, it means having mutual respect for people and the value of self-worth.
is having my independence whilst maintaining the quality of life.
it is respecting that every person has purpose, meaning and value.
is important – it is being thoughtful to others and respecting everyone.
respect is so easy to show – it makes everybody feel good. Everybody deserves dignity in life and in death.
