Dignity Day At Bowles Lodge, Hawkhurst was celebrated in style! We had “Dignity Police” who patrolled and “fined” anyone using inappropriate forms of address to clients: We continued the theme of “Dignity” for almost a week! In the main entrance there was a lovely display compiled by one of the carers: which explained the purpose and reasoning behind the day, with photographs and excerpts from Sir Michael Parkinson’s report on his year as dignity ambassador. Another carer put large print posters around the building – detailing the programme for the week and various aspects of “Dignity in Care.” The residents were treated to a presentation aimed at everyone about dignity day and keeping active. The residents then enjoyed an activity session, which began with a presentation and then a demonstration by two carers using Reebok Steps. The residents loved the movement to music and it was necessary to turn off the music to make them stop! We held a short quiz afterwards with prizes donated by the British Heart Foundation. Every day, an activity was devised for the residents to take part in, other than their normal activity programme.
Continuing the “Activity Theme” one of the carers kindly brought her children in to the home to show the residents how to use the Wii Fit – a great time was had by all participants as residents and children alike were using the Wii Fit and I understand that the children are begging to return as they enjoyed themselves so much.
