Annual general meeting - Changes to the structure of the council

The National Dignity Council held its annual general meeting in November 2022, having adjourned the meeting from its October scheduled date. The Trustees were re-elected en bloc, however some changes were made to the structure of the Council, and to the roles within it to make it more effective.

Jan Burns MBE our longstanding Chair stood down to become our Chief Executive, this is an unpaid role which enables her to take a much more strategic stance in relation to ensuring that Dignity remains high on the National agenda. It will also enable us to work much more closely with other stakeholder groups and strategic partners.

The Chair of Council will be held on a rotating basis for the forthcoming year, with Clare Copleston taking the first quarter, followed by Lesley Flatley and Roisin Burton. This enables them to maintain an effective balance between their paid employment and their Trustee responsibilities and gives new Trustees and roles time to become established. Jan Burns MBE and Rekha Elaswarapu will have completed their term of office in line with the Charities Constitution and therefore will cease to be Trustees during the forthcoming year, with Rekha taking on a Dignity Ambassador role in due course.  Thanks for dedicated service was given both have been involved with the NDC since its inception.

The  Council very much anticipates that these changes will both enable the Campaign to gain in strength and ensure that we continue to support our 168,000 champions to deliver  and grow a dignified community and share best practice.

New Trustees are currently being inducted and will be introduced in due course, anyone who has a desire to become a Trustee please email info@dignityincare.org.uk.
