Navigation capital: How social workers can guide older people with dementia through the social care maze

In this guest blog (opens new window)Kate Gridley (opens new window) shares learning from the DETERMIND project  (opens new window)about the importance of having someone to guide you through the social care system.

The ESRC/NIHR funded DETERMIND project has been collecting data from nearly a thousand people with dementia annually. The aim is to better understand inequity in experiences and outcomes for people with dementia and those who care for them. Since social care is means-tested, one of the differences in how people encounter social care is that some people are self-funders and others are funded by councils.
