Older People’s Advocacy Alliance
In a previous Newsletter in 2024, we featured a report on how Local Authorities have responded to the NICE Guidance NG227 (opens new window), which required health and social care providers to signpost adults to independent advocacy for the older people in their care.
That report is now being followed up with a new report, where the authors contacted over 500 care home groups to establish what measures they had taken to comply with NG227. Disappointingly, they only got a response from 5 care home groups.
Where possible, they followed up with the care home groups attaching a copy of the report. They also attached a poster giving details of the FREE signposting service, that should go some way to helping care home groups to meet this requirement.
In the next few weeks they will be sending out some FREE paper-based training materials, in attempt to upskill care home groups on this important issue, from Colette Isaaks from the Older People’s Advocacy Alliance
