local authority responsibilities

Hello all.

I recently attended, as a service user, workshops on the National Dementia Strategy. The workshops were sponsored by the two PCTs involved and the local authority. Throughout the day it became more and apparent that the local authority was just taking a back seat watching what others were doing and working hard to duck their Community Care Act responsibilities. I've done a write up at http://micoxpplog.blogspot.com and challenged the County Councillor who is the care champion on their Adult care Cabinet. The article is called 'Jabberwocky.'

Has anyone else come across poor quality local authority Adult Care Social Services community services?

I have a great interest in Mental Health patients and the problems we encounter with Local Authorities. As you know Mental Health patients do not have many rights and their nearest relatives can be taken to court to be displaced. The Local Authority can be awarded the Legal Guardianship over that person. I have a case where the Legal Guardian appointed by the court changed so many times that the patient did not know who they were. Not only that but in 8 months they never even visited the patient. I am told this is a common occurrance with Local Authorities.
