Dignity in Care at University Hospitals Birmingham
Each year, University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust holds a Dignity in Care Conference, which is attended by several hundred staff members and other health professionals from across the UK. The event is also attended by our military nursing staff as our hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, cares for all the UK's injured military personnel who are flown back from conflicts across the globe.
The conference is organised by our Dignity in Care team and led by our Lead Nurse for Older Adults, Margaret Harries. Margaret campaigns tirelessly and cheerfully to make sure the Dignity in Care agenda is at the forefront of our minds and has developed a number of innovative and award-winning projects.
Some facts about UHB:
- UHB is seen as a leader in the Dignity field and over the past 12 months the Dignity in Care team have received many accolades for their work, including a national Nursing Times Award
- We have more Dignity in Care champions at our hospitals than any other acute trust in the West Midlands
- UHB has Dignity in Care at its heart and has established a number of innovative projects to enhance the care of patients with dementia and delirium. We are currently holding afternoon vintage tea parties on our wards to encourage patients to eat and drink within a social setting
- Our annual Dignity in Care conference is a fantastic event held each summer, with attendance from a number of high profile figures and organisations such as BUPA and RCN.
