RESOURCES TO SUPPORT OUR DIGNITY CHAMPIONS
RESOURCES TO SUPPORT OUR DIGNITY CHAMPIONS
I'm keen to build up resources within the region that will help you, the dignity champions, be as effective as possible. To this end I have been able to get a copy of the Amanda Waring Training pack available to loan out to care homes and providers of domiciliary care, and well as more copies of the DVD "Delivering Care the Swedish Way" to give away, and plans for the Swedish care home at Malmgarden. For more information click here. :
1) Amanda Waring Training Pack for loan
Those of you who came to the Dignity Conference will have had the chance to hear Amanda speak herself and so have seen the inspirational film "What Do you See?" which she produced and directed. I have been able to buy one complete copy of her training pack and am able to lend this out for training purposes to care homes and organisations delivering home care, across the East of England.
If you would like to book the training materials for a week, please email awtraining@easterndc.org.uk saying which week you'd like the training pack for.
This whole thing relies, of course, on people being very conscientious about returning the training pack promptly once you've finished using it. Some of you may decide, if you want to use the materials on an ongoing basis, to buy your own copy, but at least this gives you a change to "try before you buy".
2) Delivering Care the Swedish Way - DVDs available
I still have some of these to give away and I can get more made. Again, this was shown at the Dignity Conference and it is a lovely film about how our Swedish colleagues have developed innovative practice around treating their guests (not patients!) who have dementia. Please email me Chrissie.bligh@easterndc.org.uk putting "Swedish DVD" in the title on your email.
3) Architects' Plans for Malmgarden, Sweden
One of the inspirational aspects of "Delivering Care the Swedish Way" was the way that their philosophy of care with dignity was built into the very design of their building, with a day centre downstairs and flats for their resident guests upstairs.
Some of you who are lucky enough to be doing "newbuilds" have expressed a desire to see the plans. I do now have copies of these to loan out, and permission from our Swedish colleagues to use them.
If you would like to see the plans, please email me Chrissie.bligh@easterndc.org.uk putting "Swedish Malmgarden Plans" in the title on your email.
