The residents chose this activity as a home, which continued for a whole week, as people in our care discussed what their ideas were and one thing that everyone had in common was interest in travel/holidays and different countries of birth/origin. The residents enjoyed a themed week from different countries every day. We planned a menu for the week of foods orginating from that country at meal times. Outside entertainers also came to visit us, this included a Spanish dance class and an Irish band. The Home was decorated with flags and items specific to that country on a daily basis and in the afternoon a group discussion, reminsence along with relatives and friends. Snacks and drinks relevant to the country of the day were appreciated and this provided great topics of sensory conversation. It was a good opportunity to discuss how we provide Dignity Care in our Home. This was also promoted through poems and a Dignity Action Day notice board in the reception area for all visitors to read. It enabled everyone to join in and be heard in the discussions and for all to make their choices with regards food and entertainement.
