'Doll Therapy'

A Colleague & I (both Community Nurses) have been working closely with one of our local Residential Homes to promote Dignity in Care.We focused on the Dementia Unit where we have encourged Carers and families to be involved in activities that would benefit Residents.Staff there have really taken this on board and 'Doll Therapy' is being used as a recreational activity for those suffering from advanced Dementia. It was a privalge to be a part of this and to see the immediate nurturing response as the dolls were placed in the arms of such Residents was astounding.Faces that appeared sad,sleepy and non motivated, suddenly began to smile.Singing,talking and caring for these dolls evoked such emotion amongst the residents, Staff and Families alike.
