Dignity Projects
At Elizabeth Court, everyone works really hard to promote dignity. One of our residents is fast approaching 103 years old and used to own a sweet shop. We have now opened a similar one next door to her bedroom which has a 1930's feel, scales, cash register and some classic sweets. Some of our residents are keen to get behind the counter. The shop offers choice which creates dignity. We have also created a cinema room with a projector and large screen (kindly donated by our manager) and everyone can now relax and enjoy a movie or simply watch telly in style. We have a memorial garden with a water feature, plants (some of which have been donated by families who have lost a loved one) and a place to sit, relax and reminisce. We have just created a sensory room which is proving to be a great asset to our Dementia sufferers. It has been a huge team effort and everyone, from kitchen staff right through to our manager have all worked hard to come up with ideas and put plans into action. Dignity champs have created boards which hold hands and hearts for each resident. The hands contain 5 points of information special to the individual, and the hearts contain each individuals own definition of the word dignity. We also have boards which highlight the 10 points of the dignity challenge and a photo for each one has been incorporated. We are passionate about dignity and giving our residents long, happy, fulfilling lives.
