Dignity in Hospital

Rehabilitation Services celebrated Dignity Action Day by asking our patient's, visitors and staff what dignity meant to them whilst they are in or attending hospital.

The responses were put onto leaves and hung on our 'Digni-tree'.

Along with displaying our tree in the main atrium we had a stand promoting and respecting dignity with regards to personal care, oral hygiene and toileting.

Occupational Therapy displayed a stand on how they work with patient's in order to help patient's regain independence in these areas along with adaptive equipment that aid them to regain/remain independent.

The event was well supported by patients, visitors and staff including the Chief Nurse who wrote on a leaf and made a Dignity Pledge on behalf of the Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The responses have been organised into related themes such as empathy, respect, privacy and communication.

We are preparing to share the results within the Trust in order to raise awareness; understanding and make changes where we can to ensure patients dignity is respected at what can be a very difficult and emotional time.
