Coniston Lodge, Feltham

Our ‘A Day in the life of a Resident ‘went off very well, in fact it was very interesting how the residents viewed it.

They were fully appraised of the meaning of the day and the role we were playing. The residents were very

protective of the ‘new’ residents; asking members of staff to look after them and make sure they had all they required.

I played the role of a resident who was unable to

feed themselves and was in a wheelchair. I was fed my breakfast which was very dignified and enjoyable. I deliberately put myself on the floor to demonstrate risks and was ably hoisted by three carers into an armchair. Other members of staff played the roles of someone who was wheelchair bound and also a resident living with the experience of Dementia and not being able to eat. All in all this was a very interesting day and a huge learning curve. It was worth every experience and something to be repeated on a regular basis as part of our Dignity Strategy.
