Making A difference
Just to report in - my visit to an Oxford Hospital was brilliant - to be in a room with medical staff dedicated to making sure that dignity is at the heart of all they do was so positive. I was able to promote the ten challenges that champions are expected to uphold and I was privileged to hear how staff had put those into practice. There case studies demonstrated how promoting dignity has had a positive affect on patient care, support/recovery. Staff did not share action that relied on loads of resources - they were the simple actions that were having profound affects - such as actively listening enough to hear what the patient needs, then putting appropriate measures in place to support - one example given was where a lady with dementia was wandering [or I might say searching] by just putting a red throw on her bed they were able to direct her to her 'red bed' - she easily found her way back to her place. 'Knowing me' care passports being used to get to know the person - their needs - their priorities etc. etc… Well done to all - how good to share good news about health/care provision.
