Dignity in Care week
Monday 2 February was Dignity Action Day, an annual opportunity for health and social care workers to uphold people’s rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people who use care services.
To mark the occasion our day therapies patients made some beautiful white paper magnolia flowers (the symbol for dignity) and together they created two beautiful Dignity Trees and some wonderful table decorations. Upon the trees they then hung decorations expressing their thoughts on dignity.
Every day this week all of the patients have received a different type of flower, each of which has a different meaning.
Blue Iris - faith and hope
White Chrysanthemum - truth & trust
Daffodils - respect
Yellow Roses - friendship
Red Roses - confidentiality
Vases of these flowers have also been on display throughout the hospice. Day Therapies patients have been able to take home a different flower each day and In Patients have a full vase of 5 different flowers in their rooms to enjoy.
Each day our Apprentice Chef, Adrian used his fabulous creative skills to carefully design and create beautiful cakes to complement the different flowers.
Rev. Penny Graysmith also held Reminiscence Sessions with the patients, giving them a chance to reflect and remember significant events in their lives
