LWDP & Afternoon Tea
On the 4th February, over 40 care staff gathered at Lancashire Workforce Development Partnership (LWDP) offices in Bamber Bridge, Preston, for a Dignity Themed Afternoon Tea Event and what a wonderful afternoon it turned out to be.
Firstly we must say, how delighted we all were to find that Jan Burns - Chair of the National Dignity Council could take time out of her extremely busy schedule to join us for the afternoon. Jan delivered a deeply thought provoking address which was fun and interactive.
Care staff demonstrated their creative skills as Jan tasked the group with producing a model of a tiered cake. Each layer of the cake represented dignity and there was an interesting and lively debate about what we need to do to ensure that dignity is consistently upheld.
Our second guest speaker, Gillian Moncaster - Chair of the North West Dignity Leads Network and a 2014 Churchill Fellow, shared her thoughts and experiences from her Fellowship to South Africa, where she studied how South Africa cares for its elders. Gillian also shared information about an award winning free resource that care staff can use on challenging poor practice.
Before the afternoon came to a close, the delegates received an overview of the new Care Certificate from Brian Groves - Locality Manager (North West) Skills for Care. Brian also introduced information on some new learning and development materials that care staff can access to support them with the introduction of the Care Act 2014.
The feedback from this event was extremely positive with many of the participants pledging to become Dignity Champions and to promote the 10 Dignity Do’s within their workplace.
LWDP announced the offer of a half day training workshop on the Common Core Principles of Dignity. Care staff have certainly taken the important messages from the day in to their hearts minds and actions. The training workshop is already full and there is now a waiting list for more of this training!
